Getting There

By Air

Orca Airways and Tofino Air have flights from Vancouver.

Kenmore Air has charter flights from Seattle.

Also, Air Canada has several daily flights from Vancouver to Nanaimo, from where you can drive.

By Car

Tofino is a roughly 3 hour drive from Nanaimo along Highway 4 (a.k.a. the Pacific Rim Highway). The route is very picturesque, passing through Cathedral Grove, Port Alberni, Sproat Lake Provincial Park, Taylor Arm Provincial Park, Clayoquot Plateau Provincial Park and Kennedy Lake Provincial Park. There are several switchbacks along the way and it's generally advised to make the journey during daylight hours.

From Nanaimo:

  • take Highway 19 north to exit 60
  • take Highway 4 west to the junction for Tofino and Ucluelet
  • turn right for Tofino, or left for Ucluelet
Getting to Nanaimo

You can reach Nanaimo by car by taking one of two ferries:
  • Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) to Nanaimo (Departure Bay)
  • Vancouver (Tsawwassen) to Nanaimo (Duke Point)
There are other routes through the Victoria area, but we do not recommend them as they will add significantly to your travel time.
